2007 Demo Derby Rules and Regulations

Full-size 78 or newer stock general rules.
1.  Any American-made sedan or station wagon '78 or newer.
2.  Helmet, seatbelt, and eye protection must be worn at all times.
3.  Any controversies or protests must be brought up during Driver's Meeting.
4.  Any questions, call first.  If it doesn't say you can, don't do it.
5.  Judges decision final.  May reject any or all entries and cars are subject to reinspection at any time.
6.  Cars must be stock unless modification is stated in the rules.
7.  All glass, plastic and interior must be removed before arriving at the event.
8.  Motor of choice.  Distributor protectors are allowed, but cannot be welded to the dash bar.
9.  Trailer hitches and braces must be removed.
10.  A 12 x 12 inspection hole must be put in all trunk lids.
11.  Original gas tank must be removed and replaced with a boat-type tank.
12.  Batteries must be moved to passenger's side floor board.
13.  You may weld, wire, bolt doors, trunk lids, tail gates completely shut (3 in. max wide, on plates).
14.  No interior seam welding will be permitted.  On pre-ran cars, some sheet metal can be repaired back to stock.
15.  Frame welding is limited to the front and back bumper areas only.  Any year bumper is ok.
16.  There is to be no altering the pitch of the frame in any way past the stock position.  Notching/pre-bending is ok.
17.  If a frame section needs to be replaced or fixed (rust) you must call.
18.  You may put 3, 3 inch by 3 inch plates on pre-ran cars that have frame damage.  If a seam has come apart, you may weld up to 6 inch of frame, but counts as 1 of the 3 plates allowable.  (No plates bigger than 3 x 3.)
19.  The pre-ran cars that have been bent at the feet, can be pulled back down to the stock position, but you cannot use the 3 x 3 plates to repair that spot.  We will let you reweld the flap only.  (Call if questions)
20.  Angles for the cross member can't be any longer than 7 in.
21.  You must have a window bar or wire in windshield area.
22.  You may modify tie rods & control arms & use valve stem protectors.
23.  You may use a floating gas tank protector that comes off the back bar, but it cannot be wider than 2 ft.  It can go alla the way against the sheet metal, but do not beat the sheet metal back to the frame.
24.  You must have four spots on the hood to keep it secure (bolts or wire).
25.  Hoods must be open for inspections.  (12 inches by 12 inches hole over carburator)
26.  If automobile is tucked there must be large access holes to see in (no wedging, call!).
27.  Body mounts must remain in place or 1 inch stack of washers is ok.
28.  You may only remove the front two mounts and alter that area only (1 in. max of all-thread can be used).
29.  Body bolts and washers may be changed.  (3/4. diameter bolt max., 3 in. max on washers) Must start in stock position.
30.  You can weld the A-arms to the frame.  For 2007 the cars do not have to bounce, height must be within reason.
31.  The bottom of the back bumper cannot sit any lower than 16 in. from the ground.
32.  Coil springs in the rear may be welded, wired or chained to the rear-end.
33.  You may use rear-end of choice as long as it is a 5-lug rear-end.
34.  Shock leaf springs for all classes.  Six spring max per side for Chryslers '78 or newer. 
35.  You cannot change coil spring to leaf spring set-ups!!!
36.  You may add 3 bolts per wheel well.
37.  You may have a roll cage surrounding the driver's compartment with an overhead bar.  Bars must be sheet metal-to sheet metal (no kickers) 16 inch max behind seat & must be at least 6 in. off the floor.  We will allow one diagonal bar from the back bar ot the driver's side rocker panel floor pan.
38.  Clarification of some phone calls regarding car building rules & regs may have to be made the day of the event during inspection due to the interpretation of the rules by the car builder.
39.  There are risks & dangers associated with demolition derbies which could result in bodily injury, disability, & even death.  You must accept these risks and not hold Don Long or Back to Back Promotions responsible.

Small Class Rules

1.  Any year small car limited to ____ wheelbase allowed (No V-8 engine).  Due to the wide variety of classes adn events, you must call for wheel base info.  Some shows in 2007 will not allow AMC to run.
2.  All full-size building rules apply for small class also.
3.  Electric fuel pumps must have a shut-off switch within reach of driver.
4.  We will be "driver friendly" with you on the length of the springs, but the thickness of the springs must be stock.

Special Events/Heats

1.  We will be putting on some shows that will allow any year cars (no Imperials).  These events will be in a series called "Turn Back the Clock" to keep it separate from our regular "78 or newer events.  The only rule change is that any car older than '78 cannot have a gas tank protector.  All other rules above apply.
2.  Dynamic Duo is a heat of cars where 1 drives & 1 rides.  Above rules apply.  You must have a 4-point cage with seatbelts for both driver & passenger with a seatbelt/handle bolted to the roof.  Battery must be secure and safe.
